There are so many amazing causes and amazing people out there doing amazing work. Here are a few causes near and dear to our hearts:
HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES
The Human Society is the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, working to end practices of animal cruelty, care for animals in crisis, and build a stronger animal protection movement since 1954. Their mission is to create a better world for all animals, working locally, nationally, and internationally to improve the lives of thousands.
Current fights include banning trophy hunting, ending cosmetics animal testing, going fur-free, improving the lives of farm animals, and stopping puppy mills. In the past year, they’ve released 4,000 beagles from animal testing laboratories, saved an estimated 500,000 farm animals through plant-based culinary training and campaigns, and shut down 24 inhumane puppy mill dealers. They’ve also rescued dogs from the meat trade, tigers from the exotic pet trade, distributed millions of dollars in pet supplies, help pass state laws protecting 17 endangered species, and so much more.
We love animals more than almost anything else, and animals, just as much as we do, deserve to live happily and healthily on this planet that we all share. Shop items contributing to our Humane Society donation HERE. Want to learn more? Visit the Humane Society of the United States website.
READ > LEAD > ACHIEVE
Read > Lead > Achieve is Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women's philanthropic effort which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society. They believe in the power of reading, and that reading always has been and always will be a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. One in four children in America today grows up not being able to read at a functional level, and they believe that this is one child too many. For more than a century, they have committed themselves to creating a more literate and productive society.
Read > Lead > Achieve sponsors the program Champions Are Readers (CAR), a unique reading enrichment program for students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Since its launch in 2003, thousands of students across the United States and Canada have participated in the program. Designed to create an interactive reading and mentoring relationship between Pi Beta Phi members and children from their local communities, CAR engages children in a positive reading experience and allows participants to accommodate students’ varying academic needs. All CAR program materials—including folders, activities, certificates and books—are provided to participating chapters through Read > Lead > Achieve.
Founder Olivia Jones is an alumna of Pi Beta Phi, and in college was involved in philanthropic efforts supporting Read > Lead > Achieve. Partnering with the Arizona Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi, 10% of all pop-up shop profits were donated to support the cause. Learn more about Read > Lead > Achieve here.
UNICEF
Over eight decades, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has helped save and meaningfully improve more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization. Everything UNICEF does, all of its programs and partnerships and global advocacy work, is in pursuit of one goal: to ensure that every child can grow up healthy, educated, protected and respected. Projects include immunizing children against preventable diseases, tackling malnutrition, supporting mental health, helping kids get back to school, strengthening systems that keep them safe from harm, respecting children's rights, and making sure youth voice are heard on issues that matter to them.
UNICEF works in some of the world's toughest places to protect the rights and meaningfully improve the lives of children and young people in the greatest need, and they won't stop until every child can grow up hopeful about their prospects for a bright future. In 2022, they vaccinated 23.8 million children against measles, reached 28 million with education support, provided 13 million with mental health support, ensured 25.9 million had safe drinking water, and reached 4.2 million women and children with violence risk prevention and intervention.
One of our core values is compassion, which means not only recognizing others' experiences, but taking action and inspiring change. UNICEF's work is making real change in so many ways, for so many lives. Shop items contributing to our UNICEF donation HERE. Want to learn more? Visit the UNICEF website.
